Purple Artichokes and Olive Oil
Michael and I spent the morning at the Borough Market at London Bridge yesterday. This place is so fun.
We took the steps and followed a footpath passed a little café where two ladies talked over hot tea and a man sat alone with his paper. The cathedral towered overhead on the other side; purple crocuses and pale daffodils had blossomed on the lawn beside.
As we reached the end of the footpath, stalls and swarms opened out in front of us. There was a sudden swell of mixed aromas, of bratwurst and tabouleh. We merged with the crowd and the atmosphere, and moved slowly between the stands.
There is so much to see at the markets. So much colour. And a feast of fresh foods and delicacies. Barrels of shiny, oily olives, fat wheels of butter-coloured cheese, seeded loaves of bread piled high. Saffron, spices and chili peppers the colour of fire. Purple artichokes, white asparagus and Brazilian figs. Scarlet strawberries and rose and lemon Turkish delight. And buckets of fresh daisies and violets.

Oh the memories your blog brings – such a spring day in London elevates one’s mood amazingly. The first daffodils and crocuses allow us to start thinking about warmer days to come and remind us of God’s beauty. Love Em xx
Hey Birgit, Borough market. Being a foodie, it is one of my fave london places!! When ever I’m in london it’s a compulsary stop and I take anyone new to london there also – gotta spread the word. I go now for two things: 1. The fudge a)the salty kind and b) the chilli kind – oh yes you gotta try it!!! Oh and c)the coconut ice. 2. The hot roast beef or hot roast pork sandwiches!!! You have to hover, waiting till they bring the just out of the oven hot roat meat out and then swoop upon the stall before the queue is too long. And don’t leave it too late in the day or you’ll miss out!!! Oh if you’re a meat eater, you gotta try it!!!! Then go and find yourself a nice spot in the sun on the grass under the towering church………….haaaaaaaaa………thank you God….
