Oil Lamp
God has blessed me to be involved in interviews this week with people of deep faith and dedication to Him. Just as He did two thousand years ago, Jesus inspires passion. Passion to tell others that He is real and actually alive today. Passion to tell hurting people that there is hope and healing available. And it is because of God’s love.
The man I interviewed on Tuesday was young. He first heard about God as a teenager in Nigeria. He was deeply impacted by what he heard about who God is. He asked God for a relationship, and for the Holy Spirit to live in his heart.
Because of how compelled he felt by this Person Jesus, he had a hunger to know everything about Him and so started to read the Scriptures. What impacted me most by our discussion was when he described the way that where he lived at the time, there was no electricity. So instead, he sat before an oil lamp into the night reading from Genesis to Revelation. The heat from the lamp, and from his fervour, caused perspiration as he read.
What a picture. What inspiration to see that kind of passion for God. Nothing but an oil lamp to read over, but he was uncompromising in the way he pursued God.
What spoke to me above everything else he shared was just that, that unyielding heart for God.
To me, that passion alone testifies to the reality of Jesus Christ.
