The Romance of God

image On Saturday, Michael and I went to the wedding of some dear friends of ours. I adore weddings – the anticipation of the bride in all her exquisiteness, the delight on the face of her husband-to-be, the romance of the ceremony, and the beauty of hope for their new life together. Love, Joy, Beauty, Hope – I adore it!

But there was something that stood out for me at this wedding. Theirs is story about God. About seeking God, pleasing God. Theirs is a witness of God, as the Ultimate Romantic.

I worked with these dear friends for over two years, and saw them relate as work-mates and then friends, and slowly, sweetly, as a young couple in love. This was not just a natural evolution though. These two are passionate about serving God, and if they were to ever marry, it would have to be because of the will of God. No less. They are on fire for Him, and are so inspirational.

They never saw each other romantically, but it was God who revealed to them each individually, in a myriad of ways, that His will was for them to marry. And then He birthed the most sweet, romantic and constant kind of love between them.

To be at that ceremony when they joined their lives together before God was really emotional. God’s fragrance was upon their union. Their choices of purity and commitment and of honouring God were extremely beautiful, and extremely powerful to see. These choices culminated in this really blessed and joyful day.

My beloved spoke, and said to me: “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away … The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come … My beloved is mine, and I am his.” Song of Solomon 2:10;12;16.
