Angel Spirituality

image I used to be really into the occult and the New Age. I was spiritually searching, and had an intrigue in this kind of spirituality.

I met a woman during this time who told me that she could see my ‘angel’ or ‘spirit guide.’ This being was very beautiful and glorious, the woman said, and I should make contact with her for guidance.

I’ve heard that there is a lot of interest around about this kind of thing. That people are fascinated by angels, and some are keen to make contact with them. To ask them for guidance maybe, for a spiritual experience, or maybe just out of curiosity.

Is this kind of angel spirituality OK though?

I did try to make contact with my ‘angel.’ I tried to make contact with lots of spiritual entities during this time. But I got a lot more than I bargained for. The experiences were adrenalized and scary. Although I knew angels were good, the presences were dark. And after many months of pursuing this kind of spirituality, I began to experience a kind of fear in my day to day life that was overwhelming. This fear had no logical explanation and I couldn’t break free from it. I was desperate when I came to God. When I cried out to Him, I had a dramatic, supernatural encounter with Him, I’d really like to share it here at some stage. It’s made me passionate about God, because I know how real He is, and the power that He has.

I understand spirituality differently now. In the Bible there are only two spiritual sources – God and Satan. If you are not worshipping God, then the spiritual source is ultimately dark. And we are warned not to be fooled about this. “For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light” 2 Corinthians 11:14. My spirituality had the appearance of something good, but appearances can be deceiving as this verse says.

A true angel of God will never say anything inconsistent with the gospel of Jesus Christ Galatians 1:8. A true angel of God will never accept our worship or devotion, they will always direct us to worship God. When John saw an angel, he described the way that he was so in awe that he fell at his feet to worship him. The angel said to him, “Do not do it! I am your fellow-servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! Revelation 19:10.

We are vessels of worship. We each worship something, and ultimately Someone. As the Bible says, “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” Joshua 24:15.

Tomorrow’s post is the final one in this series and for me it’s a highlight. It describes An Encounter with an Angel …
