Talent

imageI haven’t seen a lot of hip hop style of dance before. Maybe in movies sometimes, but not live.

But last night we went with some friends to see this amazing performance of this form of dancing.

I love watching dancing. Any style. I really admire the talent of the artists; their movement, their strength and stamina, their amazing skill, the way it seems so natural, their rhythm, and their ability to remember all the choreography. It’s so great. So I really enjoyed the show last night.

I guess I draw things back to God often, and I really did last night seeing this performance.

The dancers were incredible and it was an amazing thing to see them operating in their talent. It was a blessing to see it, really. As if this is exactly what these dancers were born to do. To bless and inspire people through this talent they have been given, and the hard work they’ve put in to cultivate it.

I thought of God who is our Author and the Giver of good gifts. The One who purposefully and intricately designed us. The One who knitted us together, deliberately weaving into us skills and talents and personality traits that He would desire us to use for His glory and the blessing of others.

And I also thought of the particular part He wants us to play. The special place He’s carved out for us in the world, and in this time in history. The special function that we have within His Body.

As much as I love dancing, I will never be like the dancers I saw on stage last night for example (God-willing), but then, I know that in God’s plan He has something else that He’s specially crafted me for. Big or small, there is a reason He has made me, and each of us, the way we are; and a special purpose He has in mind.

Isn’t that so great? That we each have been given talents by God, and He has purpose for our lives for His glory.

So I thank God for the blessing of seeing these dancers, and for the gift He’s given, it’s really inspired me to see the blessing that comes when we operate in the gifting He’s given us.

Do you have a sense of God’s purpose and your part within His Body? What are some of the gifts or talents He’s given you that you feel He has a purpose for?

  2. So glad you recommended it Sands, it was amazing! I just admire the dancers so much. You are so right about using the gifts that God has given and called us to use, there is that feeling of coming alive, and everything seems to click into place :)

  3. Live performances are on the top of my favs list.

  4. God has given me a gift for teaching and it’s something I must do, it’s just like breathing. And wonderfully planned out - He also gave me a passion for learning. So, I’m always learning new things and teaching them.

  5. Do you have a sense of God’s purpose and your part within His Body?

A while ago I would have said yes with much enthusiasm. I knew exactly what He had gifted me to do and felt I was where He had placed me. Today, I struggle with knowing what He would have me do. I am disabled so I blog and am hoping this is a realm in which I can again use the gifts He’s given me, we’ll see.

  6. Hi @ngie - I know what you mean, I love it when we get to see live performances. God bless :).

Hi Hope - that’s wonderful that you have a passion for learning and for teaching. It is great that God has given you a forum for this gift through your blog. What you are learning about Him and writing on is having an impact. God bless.

Hi Michelle - I really relate to what you’re saying. It’s interesting that sometimes God’s purpose seems so clear, but it can seem less so, or change, as we grow with Him. Yes, I agree, I think blogging can be a ministry - sharing about our experiences with God, teaching, writing devotionals, praying for each other - it is so good that you are finding this an outlet for the gifts He’s given you. I look forward to reading more about your experiences. God bless.

  7. Hi Birgit, glad you enjoyed it so much - me myself was blown away, never expected Hip Hop to be so good! Elanze, my sister, who does Hip Hip and triggered this event to be arranged, rated it as one of the highlights of her very first trip to London!

God is faithful, full of surprises, always willing, and haleluja, He rejoices in variety… May we strive to be less judgemental, less critical, and more humble, helpful, acceptive.

  8. Hi Desire, it was brilliant wasn’t it! So lovely to share it with you and to meet Elanze too, God bless :)
