Herbal Tea

imageMy cupboard is full of exotic teas with exotic names and exotic boxes.

Honeybush and Lavender; Vanilla and Camomile; Ginger Harmony and Cinnamon Spice. Jasmine; Peppermint; Dandelion. There is even a tea called White Christmas with a scent of cloves and orange and cinnamon.

I love that my cupboard is full of these brightly coloured boxes and beautiful aromas, but the truth is I don’t drink them all that often. I think a lot of that has to do with my love for black coffee. Now that aroma filling the kitchen as it brews is something pretty amazing.

Anyway, I’d like to start drinking my herbal teas again. Michael and I chat a lot about health these days, and making healthier choices with diet and exercise. This is mostly because of some horrible health issues that have come up in recent months for family and friends, and it makes us more aware.

I was reading this morning that herbal teas can be beneficial to good health  too. I read that peppermint tea for example can help with digestion, and camomile or lemon balm tea can help with relieving tension or symptoms of stress. I have not tried this but it sounds great.

So do you like herbal tea? Have you found that it helps with your health in anyway?

  1. My hysband who is mexican swears by Canela (cinnamon sticks) tea, he uses it for heartburn and stress. I love the taste though.

My favorite is either Earl grey (closest to coffee) and I adore Raspberry Morning. Actually right now, I am enjoying that. Until in a couple hours when I get my coffee. I am not sure medicinal experience it is, but it’s what I come with to meet with God every morning. :) Love ya!

  2. Here in Bolivia the use herbal teas for every ailment imaginable.

chamomile: indigestion, any stomach ache, to make children sleepy, and to increase lactation
    anise: digestion, guard against infection
coca leaves (yeah – the raw ingredient for cocaine): combat altitude sickness, curb appetite, relieve stress
varieties of mint: as you said in the post
    cinnamon: to increase lactation
    they have a ton more…

My favorite is anything with ginger, mmmm!

  3. Hi Heidi, I LOVE cinnamon, it has such a lovely spicy kind of scent. And love your coffees with God in the morning – I do the same thing. Lots of love :)

Hi @ngie, WOW what an amazing list, that’s funny you should mention ginger as that’s the kind I’ve gone for today. Ginger tea with honey, yum! Have a lovely day and God bless :)

  4. Nice post! Thanks for the info… Have a nice day!

  5. Hi Chester! Thank you, and thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great day too :).

  6. I LOVE herbal teas. My favorites are chamomile and vanilla…very soothing, great before bedtime; peppermint definitely relieves nausea or just a nervous stomache; and strongly brewed cinnamon will relieve a headache, they say it gets the blood moving.

God is amazing in all His creation.

  7. Wow, that’s so interesting, thanks Michelle. I remember Mum giving us peppermint tea when we were children and had tummy upsets actually, and how soothing that was.
I love camomile and vanilla too :)
Yes, God is amazing with His creation and the foods He has given us to enjoy. Bless you.

  8. I LOVE TEA!!!! Mostly drink it in the fall and winter tho….camomile is very relaxing, as well as earl gray. If I do have tea in the summer, it’s usually Lemon Zinger.. mmmm
My all time favorite that I go through boxes of in the winter is called Good Earth Original. It’s fabulous dahling….. :)

  9. Ha, ha :) never tried that one Debs but I LOVE the gorgeous names these teas are given.
I know what you mean about hot tea in summer. There’s this amazing tea shop close to where we live, and they also have a lovely range of ‘cold’ teas. I’ve bought one with gorgeous flavours like apple and white cranberry. Nice on a hot day :)

  10. I’m not a big tea toadler (spelling?). But, I can attest to the FACT that peppermint tea is great for digestion and for an upset stomach and heartburn. In fact, peppermints are good for that too, as well as anisette.

  11. Hi Hope :) I really know what you mean with peppermint tea. That was pretty much the only thing I could take in when I had an upset stomach as a child. That, and flat lemonade I think.

  12. Birgit – i love tea – however i have to stay away from Caffiene! I like my tea unsweetened – sometime I will have a cup of hot tea in the evening to relax me.

  13. Hi Papa, great see you, thanks for stopping by and welcome :) Yeah, I know what you mean about hot tea in the evenings, I love this too, something I look forward to :).
