Happy Surprise

I had a really nice surprise yesterday!

Ages ago, Michael booked tickets for us to see the show, The Sound of Music. A couple of days ago he asked me about it – the date we were booked to see it. I supposed it was sometime next month.

So yesterday, I was working away, and this email comes in from Michael. He had found our tickets in his inbox and attached them for me to see.

‘Notice anything? J’ the email said.

And there, highlighted in bright pink on the tickets, was the date of our booking – THURSDAY, 23rd OCTOBER.

Eek! I had completely forgotten, and so it’s a very good thing my dear husband is so on to it!

So YAY! We went out last night to the West End to see The Sound of Music!

I LOVE The Sound of Music. It was the very first movie I ever saw, and I remember when we were little, my brother and I used to watch re-runs of it over and over.

The show was probably one of the best I’ve seen. The characters were lovely, and the casting wonderful. The singing was beautiful and the sets, really amazing! But the thing I loved the most was that it created real happiness watching it – just as I remember the movie did when we were children.

Part of it has to do with the songs, the bright characters, as well as the story itself, but another reason for me is the wholesomeness of it. I really love that. Soaking in a story that builds up, that preserves purity, where character shines, where ‘good’ prevails (because for us as Christians, we know that it has and it ultimately will). I love going away from a book or movie or in this case, a show, feeling inspired and lifted up. I love happy entertainment.

What is your favourite movie or show, and why do you like it?

Edelweiss from the original movie is posted below J.

Hi @ngie, yeah I love musicals and we are trying to make more of an effort to see more as London has so much to offer in this way. I agree, there’s really something special about seeing live performances :).

Hi Randi, that’s so great you love ‘The Sound of Music’ too :). A Christmas show/play would be so fun! God bless :)

  6. What fun!! I have every song memorized. When I was little we didn’t have movies at hand, but we had the album. I loved laying on my bed and singing to my heart’s content.

What a blessing to see it Live!

  7. Me too Michelle! I think that’s one of things I loved most about it, that real familiarity and love of the songs :)

  8. Yep! It’s my fave too! And it was my FIRST movie too! There I was in Africa, age about 4, taken to the movie because my mum was a teacher, so I kinda tagged along, and I’d never seen a large screen before OR technicolour! As Maria came runing up the hill singing the openign song, to me she was like a GIANT! I screamed, and ran up the aisle away from this giant shouting ‘Mummy, Mummy!’ Yep, it was over 40 yrs ago, but I still remember it! Glad I can laugh now! And I’ve watched it just about twice a year since! Perhaps we can start a SOM appreciation club! LOl! My fave song of them all is probably ‘I have confidence in me’- full of drama, shrugging of shoulders, guitar and case in hand.’A captain with 7 children, what’s so fearsome about that?! Oh I must stop these doubts all these worries.. SOMEBODY STOP ME!!! PS I’ve got a photo of the original cast as they are now- amazing to see them all grown up!

  9. That is such a sweet story Laura :), and yes! A SOM appreciation club! Love it! Wow, you have a photo of the original cast all these years on, what a great thing to have been part of a movie like this :).
