Overlooked
If you work at a job that you don’t particularly like, but you do it with your whole heart as to the Lord – the Lord sees.
If you are a stay-at-home mum, and you feel invisible as you faithfully nurture your family day after day – the Lord sees.
If others get to lead worship, stand at the pulpit, and write the book, while you serve quietly and faithfully in the background – the Lord sees.
If your marriage is hard, and you stay, and pray, and honour your spouse as to the Lord – the Lord sees.
‘For the Lord does not see as man sees,’ the book of Samuel says, ‘for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart’ 1 Sam. 16:7.
You are not overlooked.
We look to the outward appearance, the Scripture tells us – the noteworthy, the popular, the ‘successful’ – but the Lord looks at the heart.
David was not even counted amongst His brothers as one that Samuel might anoint to be King. His father called seven of his brothers to pass before Samuel for the honour, but not David. Was David invisible in his sight? I am not sure. But it wasn’t until Samuel asked him “Are all the young men here?” that Jesse was prompted to think of his youngest, David (1 Sam. 16:11). And where was David? Faithfully “keeping the sheep” (1 Sam. 16:11). Faithfully about the task he had been given.
Is that you today? Seemingly invisible, but faithfully about the task you have been given? Then can I just encourage you! The Lord sees. ‘Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord … knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ’ Col. 3:23-24.
You serve the Lord Christ.
And He sees.
And behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to give to every one According to his work – Revelation 22:12.

As the wonderful singer Israel Houghton aptly puts it, ‘I am not forgotten, God knows my name’ Hallelujah! Brilliant piece Birgit. You are truly gifted.

Hi Randi, I’m so happy that this was soothing for you at the moment. Am praying for you, and will also pray for your husband. Love and blessings to you xo
Hehe… You can also feel a little over looked being front and centre leading worship too, believe me! I think it’s the human condition sometimes…
A small testimony of my life is that I wouldn’t BE a worship leader if it wasn’t for one of the ‘quiet faithful’ people in our chruch encouraging me to take the plunge. He is a man who is more than happy to go un-noticed, yet without his gentle nudging, and encouraging prayers, I would not have even thought of the possiblity! So please, if you’re one of those people… never underestimate the power of your faith in the Living, Mighty, Untamable God we worship!
God is good, and He is also faithful to supply ALL our needs according to his riches…!
Such a beautiful promise.
Hi Nik, thank you SO much for sharing this testimony, I loved it. It really made me think of the way the Lord uses each of us to impact others in ways we may not even realise. What a blessing this man is, and so good you took his advice!
Bless you ox
“The Lord sees.” What wonderfully soothing words. Thanks for the boost.
