Worship at the Bus Stop
I was on my way to meet some friends this morning. We had arranged to get together to catch up over coffee and to pray about things. I was really looking forward to it, got up early, and headed up to the station.
The thing with public transport though, is that it can really let you down, and that’s what happened today.
Trains, buses, everything was delayed and having problems, and I ended up waiting an hour in the cold, watching the precious time we had together pass by.
It’s just a tiny example of something that can go wrong in a day, but something so good came out of it, and that’s what I wanted to touch on.
As I waited, I was listening to my I-Pod and where I had been feeling frustrated, the worship music started to really impact me. I was really struck by the words that were praising and adoring God, and it was so amazing, that I suddenly felt like I could cry right there at the bus stop!
One of the lines that got me was one that said, ‘Your praise is always on my lips.’
It reminded me of Psalm 34, verse one, ‘I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be on my lips.’
His praise shall continually be on my lips.
His praise is really not continually on my lips, I thought to myself, especially in the little nuisance things like I found myself in.
But as I listened to the worship, as my heart began to line up with it, I realised in a fresh way this incredible thing. Worship really can change the climate of our hearts.
Adoration of God, praising Him, even at a bus stop, can truly lift us from somewhere ordinary, or in my case, frustrating, to somewhere where we experience Him!
I felt such joy, and so much in God’s presence, that I didn’t care if the bus came at all anymore (although it did in the end :)).
Worship was powerful for me today, and I learnt a little more about the blessing of continually praising Him.

That’s a beautiful reminder, Birgit. Good thing you’re not living in Ottawa. The public transit system employees have been on strike for 6 weeks and these past two weeks it’s been between minus 20 and minus 40.
I often think that when life interupts my plans, perhaps God has seen that I was about to be in an accident and that’s why I’ve missed my ride, or whatever the interuption was. As it turns out, you ended up doing the very thing He created you for. Be blessed!
I really love that scripture about God’s pray continually being on our lips. And the reality is that a lot of times that doesn’t happen because like you said, we get caught up in the things of the world and tend to allow them to overshadow the reality that regardless of what we go through, God is good. He is faithful. He is consistent. And He is worthy of ALL the praise. I need to become better with that too B. Thank you for the reminder. Love you!
I can relate to this situation. I actually miss my I-Pod days, when I listened to Christian music at the bus or train stop on my way to work as a nanny. This music really helps you through a long wait for the bus or a long ride on public transportation! I love the worship music and it always makes me feel reassured and positive. Now I only get to listen to it occasionally when I’m driving and turning on the Christian radio station K-Love. I’m planning to get a docking station for the i-pod so I can listen to it around the house when I am by myself with the baby.
Have a great Sunday, Birgit!
Such a precious story, Birg. I write in tears tonight, thinking about the majesty of God. Jesus sang the first note…the first song…. And His people have been singing ever since. And we will continue His song forever & forever….
I think I need to get an iPod.
Yep, it’s all about the state of our heart! :)
And we were praying on the other end for safe (and quick) travels! Hmm, think God really had other plans for Birgit at the time..!
awesome thoughts! I believe that praise music can redirect my mind back to where it belongs. And experience HIM we will, HE loves our praise, we were created to love and praise HIM..I love that even at bus stops (and I know about that) HE shows up, and pours a little extra on us. Almost like HE was saying, “I know you really wanted to spend time with your friend, with all good intentions, but I thought I would spend time with you instead” haha The KING OF KINGS, wanting to spend time with us! Awesome!
This is such a wonderful reminder to me that God is always waiting for us. Even in our everyday circumstances He is waiting for a chance to surround us with His presence and any place can become a place of worship.
I love it. I like to worship while pulling weeds in the yard. It kind of goes hand-in-hand, you know? I ask for Him to pull my weeds as I praise with my ipod.
Isn’t it wonderful how assessible He is? Blessings, Birgit.
Birgit, where are you? love you and saying a prayer extra special for you tonight. missing you.
