Plans

Things didn’t go to plan yesterday.

From time to time I take part in a women’s ministry programme, and yesterday was my day to plan it out and arrange the guest. I made the arrangements and thought everything was set.

But it seems like God had other plans.

First thing I received an email that our guest wasn’t able to make it. It was about five hours to the live show at that point so I had to think fast – and pray! :)

After lots of phoning around and emailing, we managed to change the topic and arrange another guest. I did some reading and prepared my questions. Sigh of relief. Everything was set. Or so I thought.

To cut a long story short, the preparation for the plan B programme foiled before my eyes with less than an hour to go – eek!  Ten minutes to the live show, which is an hour and a half long, the other ladies and I sat around the table on set, shrugged our shoulders and prayed. Lord, You are in control. This is Your programme. Would You give us a topic to speak about, and have Your will.

And He did. And it was so good!

We spoke about that very thing. How God can sometimes disrupt our perfectly-made plans to remind us that His purposes are ultimate, to shake up our trust in Him, and to remind us how very dependent we are on Him.

God was so present with us. There was a flow and lots to say. There were testimonies and prayers with people who phoned in, but more than anything, for me personally, there was the vivid reminder that God is very real and very faithful, and that we can rest completely in His grace.

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails Proverbs 19:21.

  1. “Justify your existence, obey God.”

  2. I just read the following scripture this morning:
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
What a friend we have in Jesus!

  3. Thanks for your comment, perfectbelief.

Such a strengthening verse, thanks Des :) So true, what a friend we have in Him, the One who goes with us, the One who never leaves us, and is always faithful to us. Have a lovely day, my friend xo

  4. I love the way He foils my plans all. the. time. (Can you read the sarcasm in my comment?) No. Honestly, He knows what’s best and when I’ll take the time to understand why things turned out differently than I’d planned, I usually find the good purpose in His ways.

    His will be done…right?

    Right.

Love you, Birgs! Thanks for the continual encouragement you bring to blogland! :)

  5. He has made me a “planner” by nature and that’s exactly how He calls me to depend on Him – by shaking things up and changing the plan at the last minute. Last minute!!!! God is good all the time. Thank you for sharing this lesson. :)

  6. That’s so good you know what I mean, Michelle :) And that’s so true that afterwards you can see His purpose, even if at the time it feels like you’re going to very easily fall flat on your face, ha, ha! But in the end, He never let’s us down. He truly is faithful :)
Love you too my friend, you are such a blessing ox

I can so relate Hope! Yes, so true, so often it’s at the last possible minute that God lets things crumble, just so we have no place to turn but Him!! And that’s such a good thing! What a boost to our faith seeing Him come through amazingly :)

  7. Oh, it is one of the most stressful things when things don’t go according to plan I think! But how amazing is God’s ways and He makes me smile the way He reminded you here that He is the one in charge of the plans and His ways are so much better than ours anyway!:)

  8. And do you know the really funny thing about the programme plan that got foiled? – It was on the topic of stress! Ha, ha, God’s sense of humour I’m sure ;) You’re right Rain, He really did get my attention, and He really reminded me how exciting and free-ing it is when we go with His lead. Hope you’re well :)
