Holy, Holy, Holy
… behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance;
… And from the throne proceeded lightnings, and thunderings, and voices.
… and all around the throne, were four living creatures … And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!” Rev 4:3;5;6;8
This is the account of the apostle John of his vision of God upon His throne. John is not alone in experiencing a vision like this, and I’ve been studying the different accounts in Scripture.
Ezekiel speaks of a whirlwind, the coming of God Himself, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself, “and brightness all around it, radiating out of its midst like the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire” Ez 1:4 .
Isaiah speaks of the seraphim above the Lord’s throne, these gliding angelic beings, burning, ablaze, full of fire, from what I’ve read of them. Continuously in His presence, one crying to another saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory” Is 6:2-3.
“I am undone!” Isaiah cries out in God’s almighty presence. “I am destroyed” he is saying.
Imagine it. Being in the presence of this utterly holy all-powerful God, Who is a consuming fire Hebrews 12:29 says.
His majesty and glory and holiness so profound, that Isaiah feels his own undoing. Consumed by Him.
This Almighty God.
Angelic host continuously attend Him, worship Him, and declare His holiness and His glory.
This God Who looks from heaven and sees each one of us. “From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth … [and] considers their works” Ps 33:14-15.
This God who says to us, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End … who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” Revelation 1:8.
May we be stirred by the unimaginable majesty of our God.
The all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful, all-present, all-loving, all-Holy One.
May we wait on Him and renew our strength and mount up with wings like eagles Is 40:31.
May we not grow weary in well-doing, knowing that in due season we will reap if we do not give up Gal 5:9.
May our light so shine before men, that they would know there is a God in heaven, that He is real, and that He loves them.
“And behold I am coming quickly,” says the Lord Jesus, “and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to His work” Revelation 22:12.

Thank you Birgit for this powerful post, I wish I could remember it throughout the day, I sometimes need this kind of encouragement, surrounded by non-believers.
Awesome, just awesome. thank you
Hi Susanne :) It’s so good you felt encouraged. I was so struck by these passages giving an idea of what it will be like in God’s presence – how holy and beautiful and powerful and awesome He is. Thinking of you, and sending love xo

Hi Laura :) The’re such amazing passages aren’t they? Our God is truly amazing xo
Descriptions like these just leave me speechless. It just reminds me that even though sometimes we think we have a lot of knowledge about God or we understand about His glory or His holiness, when I read something like this I remember that I really have no clue and my biggest understanding of Him is really only as small as a grain of sand… even smaller than that!
Rain, I so know what you mean. I feel the same way. I just feel overwhelmed at how almighty and holy and full of majesty our God is, and how we are so limited in comprehending Him. I’m just thinking of that scripture that says, “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face” 1 Cor.13:12. How amazing will that be? :) Lots of love to you.
